Sandbaai, Hermanus. |
| Hermanus, one of South Africa's premier holiday
destinations, is situated on the Cape
southwest coast on Walker Bay. It is the best
land-based whale watching venue in the world, from
August to November you can stand on the
cliffs and look right down on Southern Right whales
sporting in the sea a few metres from the shore. |
| The village is about 70 minutes drive from Cape
Town, the route takes you on the N2 via Sir Lowry's
Pass and Houwhoek Pass over the majestic
Hottentots-Holland and Houwhoek mountains; you turn
off onto the R43 at Botrivier village. A longer
route is the spectacular scenic route along the
coast from Gordon's Bay on the R44. |
